Over the years the concept of Mardi Gras has proven very popular with the LGBTQIA+ community as also being a celebration of love, diversity, and acceptance.

Revelers dress up in fantastical costumes and makeup to celebrate, party, eat, drink, and even take part in a massive parade with carnival floats and more! In 2021 the day of Mardi Gras falls on Tuesday the 16th of February. Mardi Gras celebrations occur all over the world, but perhaps the best known celebration is in New Orleans in the US. Mardi Gras may be synonymous with the LGBTQIA+ community, but did you know its origins are Easter-related? Mardi Gras is French for 'Fat Tuesday', as traditionally it was the last day of eating rich and fatty foods before beginning a fast for Lent.
